AI Search

AI search refers to using AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini) to find information instead of typing into Google. By 2027, 30-50% of queries in some categories are projected to happen via AI search. Businesses cited by AI assistants will dominate; those invisible to AI will fade.

The longer version

AI search differs fundamentally from traditional search. Instead of giving you a list of 10 blue links, AI assistants give you a single synthesized answer that names specific businesses, products, or solutions. The competitive dynamic shifts from 'rank #1 on Google' to 'be the business AI cites.' Getting cited requires three things: (1) Allow AI crawlers, (2) Publish citation-worthy answer content with schema, (3) Build authority signals through reviews, citations, and Wikipedia presence.

Common questions

Is Google AI search the same as ChatGPT?

Different products, similar approach. Google's AI Overviews appear inside Google search results. ChatGPT is a standalone assistant. Both cite businesses.

How do I know if I am cited by AI search?

Ask ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity 'best [your business type] in [your city]' and see if you are named.

Can I pay to appear in AI search?

Not yet directly. AI search relies on organic signals. Paid placement is coming but not standard yet.
