Prompt Engineering

Prompt engineering is the practice of writing inputs to AI assistants in ways that reliably produce useful outputs. Most SMB owners do not need to master it - they hire someone (Relvexa or similar) to write production-grade prompts once, then reuse them indefinitely.

The longer version

For one-off ChatGPT queries, anyone can write a prompt. For production AI systems that run in your business 24/7 across hundreds of inputs, prompts need careful engineering: specific instructions, constraints, output format definitions, edge case handling. Bad prompts produce wildly variable outputs; good prompts produce consistent quality. Most fractional AI services include prompt engineering as part of setup.

Common questions

Should I learn prompt engineering?

Helpful but not required. Most owners get higher ROI from having someone else do it once and reuse it forever.

How long does a good production prompt take to write?

From 1 hour for simple tasks to 1-2 days for complex multi-step workflows.

Why does prompt quality matter so much?

Because production systems run thousands of times. A 5% quality improvement in the prompt becomes a massive improvement in aggregate output.
